What is 10DLC?#

10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) is the new standard for business SMS messaging in the US.

Key Benefits: - Higher throughput than shared short codes - Better deliverability - Carrier-trusted sender identity - Required for A2P (Application-to-Person) messaging

All business SMS in the US now requires 10DLC registration. Unregistered traffic may be blocked by carriers.

What happens if I don't register? Your messages will be filtered, and you may face fines from carriers.

Registration Process#

The registration process has two parts:

1. Brand Registration - Company name and EIN - Business address - Industry classification - Contact information

2. Campaign Registration - Use case description - Sample messages - Opt-in/opt-out process - Message volume estimate

Registration typically takes 1-5 business days for approval depending on the vetting partner.

Step-by-Step in Trackably#

To register for 10DLC:

1. Go to Settings > SMS > 10DLC Registration 2. Click "Start Registration" 3. Enter your business details and EIN 4. Describe your use case (e.g., "Real estate marketing to property owners") 5. Provide sample messages you'll send

Be specific in your use case description. Vague descriptions like "Product Marketing" are often rejected.

6. Submit for carrier review

Here is an example of a good API payload for registration:

json
{
  "brand": {
    "name": "Acme Corp",
    "ein": "12-3456789",
    "vertical": "REAL_ESTATE"
  },
  "campaign": {
    "useCase": "MARKETING",
    "description": "Sending property alerts to interested buyers who opted in via website form."
  }
}

We'll notify you by email once approved.

Approval Tips#

To improve approval chances:

Do: - Be specific about your use case - Show clear opt-in process - Include opt-out instructions in samples - Use professional language

Avoid: - Vague descriptions like "marketing" - All caps or excessive punctuation - Misleading content

Never use public URL shorteners (bit.ly, tinyurl) in your sample messages. Carriers block these due to high spam risk. Use your own branded domain.
